Happy 1 Year Anniversary to “Every Artist Was First An Amateur”
“It always seems impossible until it is done.” – Nelson Mandela
Last May 2023, I had an idea to write about my personal journey with art. It was just a little seed of a thought at the time. I dove into the water head first and now, 52 weeks later, I am still in the race. It’s like Walter Elliot once said, “Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other.” So this year, I persevered with 52 little races to a weekly, self-imposed deadline.
Slowly, slowly a few readers jumped on board, and then a few more. Every now and then, over the year, but especially in the beginning, I thought to myself: “what will I write about weekly”, as my self-imposed deadline approached. Sometimes I would say “ forget this, it’s too hard, who am I writing for?” Or, “I really don’t have time for this, I would rather be painting.”
The weeks went by, some better than others. The feedback would come via “likes” and simple messages. New friendships formed. My little group of readers grew and stayed engaged with what resonated with them. I am so honored.
Every Artist Was First An Amateur is now read across 19 US states and 9 countries.
So this weeks art is a compilation of the Published Cover Graphics of each story published this year. Thank you to all of you. Thank you for your feedback. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and memories with me if a story resonated with you.
I will be back in the studio next week with a fresh story as we launch into Year 2.
