Pablo Picasso's Dove of Peace
The inspiration for his illustrated dove came through a Milanese pigeon. A gift to Picasso by his fellow artist, Henri Matisse.
I chose the dove for the 2023 Holiday season because it became a modern symbol of peace through the work of Pablo Picasso. His simple dove reminds us that peace is an active pursuit that requires collective effort. Picasso believed, as I do, that art had a role to play in addressing the issues of the time.
In 1949 Pablo Picasso created "Dove of Peace," also known as "La Colombe". This simple yet profound artwork was designed for the World Peace Congress in Paris and has since become an iconic symbol of hope and unity.
It was my intention as I painted the “Peace on Earth Doves” exemplify simplicity and abstraction while conveying a timeless message that I hope will resonate with people worldwide. The color pallet exudes the colors of the 60s and 70s. These groovy little doves are each unique, individually painted on 5x5x1.5 gallery-wrapped canvas, and ready for a shelf or the wall. These Doves each carry a piece of my heart and I hope to spread some much-needed joy with them.
Give the gift of signed, original art this holiday season.
